Whoops. Somehow yesterday's fire under the airport freeway viaduct, which damaged Hawaiian Telcom and Oceanic Time Warner's fiber-optic cables, had another effect.
A Hawaiian Telcom cable TV customer told us that he tuned in to see PBS Hawaii programming but got NHK World instead. (That's Japan's public broadcaster.) We air some excellent English-language NHK programs, but not all night.
PBS Hawaii's Chief Engineer Steve Komori checked with Hawaiian Telcom and said, "The switch to our off-air signal placed the wrong program stream on the air. It has been corrected."
The glitch did not affect viewers who watch us via cable, satellite or over-the-air.
