Seeing one of those "Shut Up and Dance" car bumperstickers never fails to bring a smile to my face.
I love to watch dance, being a better audience than I am a dancer.
So tonight (Friday, Dec. 28, 2012) at 9:00, I'm going to shut up and watch! There will be spectacular dance on PBS Hawaii, dance that combines modern and traditional ballet, using dancers chosen for talent, regardless of race or body type.
You can see it, too, on AMERICAN MASTERS Joffrey: Mavericks of American Dance.
Just in case you're not familiar with it, Joffrey Ballet has broken a lot of ground and smashed stereotypes. It integrated pop and rock music scores with art and social commentary, resurrected early 20th-Century masterpieces, and cultivated innovative choreographers, including Twyla Tharp and Laura Dean.
