That's PBS Hawaii ace production tech Terrence Quinsaat, with HIKI NŌ Executive Producer Robert Pennybacker to the far right, addressing a HIKI NŌ statewide teachers conference in Honolulu this weekend. Eighty schools across Hawaii are now participating in the nation's first statewide student news network!
Our PBS Hawaii team loves getting together with the teachers, many of whom are learning journalism and digital media expressly to give their students 21st-century learning and workforce skills. This conference is a boot camp, culminating with small groups of teachers spreading out and each group doing a story on deadline.
I just wanted to say how much we like HIKI NŌ. Each show is well done and informative. It's a good way to find out what the young people of Hawaii care about. I am always surprised at the depth and insight in their reporting. They bring a welcome breath of fresh air to the mix of news reporting in our state.
