Every once in a while, an adult stops me to remind me of something I said 15, 20 or 25 years ago. They actually remember something I said in talks over the decades at different schools.
One day, Lauren Kawana, the outgoing Editor of the business and lifestyle magazine Pacific Edge, introduced herself. She mentioned she'd attended the same public middle school as I did, and that she'd heard me speak when I returned to Niu Valley Intermediate on a Career Day.
Lauren said she's been heavily influenced by a comment I made about journalism: It's a job that that pays you to learn something new and interesting every day.
She became a print journalist. And now this young, vibrant woman is changing her focus, with the very same notion of having a job which involves learning interesting things. In fact, she said as much in her successful application to UC Berkeley's film school. Her next stop: Documentaries.
I just want to wish Lauren Kawana the best in her journalism journey. This time, I'll be the one remembering what SHE said.
Wow, I just saw this Leslie! Thank you so much for remembering! Hoping to catch up with you some time in June before I ship out :) Getting nervous AND excited!
