8th-grader Toshiro Yanai, shown here with his parents Tanya and Mark, says he's not athletic, so he fired up his competitive instincts and trained to take on the challenge of the spelling bee. Toshiro won the Honolulu championship Saturday and will compete in the 2012 aio Hawaii State Spelling Bee, to be televised live here at PBS Hawaii on March 24.
Toshiro attends Iolani School in Honolulu. Second place went to a Kalakaua Middle School student, Nisa Felipe. And #3 was Celine Arnobit from Sacred Hearts Academy. Congratulations!
