Ever notice that when we don't know what to say, our tendency is to say too much? For example, when we try to comfort someone who's experienced a loss and who just can't be comforted with words....
I think the matter-of-fact Swedes have the right approach with this proverb:
Fear less. Hope more. Eat less. Chew more. Whine less. Breathe more. Talk less. Say more. Hate less. Love more. And all good things are yours.
And consider simply telling your friend who's suffered a loss that you're sorry and that you care.
