Word is, PBS' LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER will bring to national television audiences the Broadway revival of Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific, which has won seven Tony Awards and which features Hawaii's Tony-nominated actress/singer Loretta Ables Sayre.
Ables Sayre has portrayed Bloody Mary, since the first acclaimed preview in March 2008.
A longtime successful Hawaii vocalist and sometime theater actress, Loretta got her big Broadway break at age 50. In a two-part LONG STORY SHORT, Loretta told me that her introduction to major stage productions was watching the shows on Hawaii public television. She remembers what it was like seeing the lights dim and the curtains open--and imagining what it would be like to be on that national stage. Now she knows.
And pretty soon, she'll likely know what it's like to be in one of those national PBS shows. LIVE AT LINCOLN CENTER reportedly is making plans to shoot the "South Pacific" production this summer.
