I mentioned yesterday that I'd been to a UH Board of Regents meeting in Hilo on Friday (May 29, 2009).
The regents offered PBS Hawaii, the islands' only public television station, an interim lease to remain on the UH Manoa campus where we've been based for 36 years.
It's welcome news for us, because we need time in a frail economy to raise money to build a new home on land we bought this year at Nimitz Highway and Sand Island Access Road.
In the longterm, the UH Manoa flagship campus requires the two-story building we occupy for UH programs.
In the meantime, PBS Hawaii will continue to share space with two UH programs---the School of Communications and the Academy for Creative Media.
PBS Hawaii looks forward to continuing to teach and employ UH (and other college) students who make an 18-month, part-time commitment to learning television production or another aspect of public media.
And we'll continue to enjoy a neighborhood of access to UH leaders, scholars, and researchers who add a great deal to discussion of public issues.
Our thanks for the work on the lease to the Manoa administration of Virginia Hinshaw--with Vice Chancellor Kathy Cutshaw handling the negotiations, UH system-wide President David McClain, and to the UH Regents led by Al Landon.
PBS Hawaii's Board of Directors votes on the tentative lease agreement this month.
Good of the regents to share the Aloha. Good luck with your move.
Aloha,
Keahi
