NOAA's Gnarly New Adjective

My North Shore family keeps our NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) weather radio handy. Recently we've had flooding caused by heavy rainfall. This weekend we're expecting a brief storm. And next week, high surf is forecast.

NOAA announcements are even-toned, mechanical.  Just the facts and projections.

So imagine our surprise when the voice intoned news of  "...a humungous northwest swell expected Wednesday.

Technically, that must mean rully rully high surf. Gnarly, science dude!
