Maui's Keola Beamer is a Hawaiian treasure who can explain stories, and is guided by values, from many generations ago. He also has his feet planted in the 21st century, using the latest technology to operate his own music studio.
Weeks ago, he sat down with me for a Long Story Short conversation about his personal story. He spoke movingly of preserving Hawaiian culture and people who've made a difference along the way.
After PBS Hawaii's studio cameras shut down, he and I shot the breeze while the crew checked the tape. We talked about choices in Hawaii, and he jokingly introduced me to the concept of Google Fight.
Go to www. googlefight.com and you can contrast any two people, entities, notions and see which one has the most hits.

This website must be working overtime this election season--McCain/Obama; Palin/Biden; Hannemann/Kobayashi.
No doubt gamblers have discovered the site too.
Come to think of it, another music producer--savvy Jon De Mello--introduced me to another Google function: Google Alerts. Jon is notified by free Google Alert every time one of his many musical artists is mentioned on the web. Keeps him informed about public interest, and allows him to ship CDs to markets where a musical artist is catching fire.
My conversation with Keola Beamer will air on PBS Hawaii on a Tuesday evening in November. I'll be sure to give you advance notice in this blog.
